It's June 28, 2018. I've been horrified for weeks by the immigration crisis at the US border, wanting to scream in the face of anyone who supports Trump and Sessions and ICE's policies, and feeling like there's not much I can do beyond calling my representatives and trying to share information about it.
Then tonight I looked into charities that were helping out. A John Oliver piece that ran a few weeks ago talked about how people who actually make it into immigration court don't have a chance and two year olds have to represent themselves:
This made me think that donating to someone funding legal support for the people that come here would be a good move. That led me to this article with a great list of charities:
And then I noticed one had my grandma, Florence Norton's name:
They do exactly what I want to support. I miss my grandma immensely, but after living through Hitler I am glad she is not around to see this. If she could, she'd be wanting to help, and in some tenacious way like hiring lawyers. So that's what we're gonna do.
I'm a bit slim on extra funds to donate right now, though. But! I can raise money with some of the music I make! And I have two drone works-in-progress/experiments that already sound pretty cool just saved in my Dropbox folder with high enough quality audio, that I can release with the very public caveat that they are works-in-progress/experiments to try to raise some funds right now to help these people out. Totally raw/unmixed. Not even a fade in on the second one. But fuck it, they're what I've got and I've gotta do something.
I'll donate 100% of what comes in from these tracks to The Florence Project. Get some cool-sounding drone music and do some good in one go.
